Google Station was a service offered by Google that enabled partners to deploy Wi-Fi hotspots in public areas. By providing software and hardware guidance, Google helped convert fiber connections into Wi-Fi access points. These hotspots were typically set up in locations lacking sufficient broadband infrastructure to support modern internet bandwidth for their customer base. The service was implemented in several countries, including India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand, Nigeria, the Philippines, Brazil, and South Africa. The primary goal was to provide fast and reliable Wi-Fi for everyone while ensuring data security on Google’s network.

Despite its relatively smaller scope compared to other projects in my portfolio, this initiative had a significant impact. The straightforward one-page website offered essential program details and a sign-up form for access.

As the Technical Director, I led a successful multidisciplinary team consisting of designers and developers based in Los Angeles, CA, and Mountain View, CA (Google campus). For this project, we utilized a static site generator called Grow. All pages were compiled in at least eight languages (localization), and the form leveraged AJAX to communicate with our backend services within the Google Cloud Platform.
