For the rollout of “Destiny: The Taken King—The Legend of You” DLC package, our team created a truly unique experience that invited the Destiny community (consisting of PSN, Xbox, and PC members), to create and share a personal game trailer that incorporated their greatest Destiny moments.

I worked with AKQA, Bungie and the Activision team to craft a website that stitched a player’s personal achievements with game footage wrapped up in a dynamic video. Players could create and share their unique videos on popular social media outlets.

Working together, we successfully identified criteria gamers desired as it related to gameplay, playability, and ranking. The result was a low barrier to entry, graphically stunning HTML5, hardware-accelerated website.

Utilizing genuine Destiny character 3D models, we optimized the poly counts to make them sing in our WebGL interactive presentation.

Designed and developed to handle high-profile video campaigns, we employed our in house dynamic video rendering system solution for this project. The system is built on custom source code and deployed to Amazon Web Services (AWS) utilizing AWS CloudFormation Templates.

To achieve a custom user experience (UX), we integrated with PlayStation Network, Xbox, and PC gaming services using their associated APIs. We created an abstraction layer for all of the calls to accommodate future API updates.

In just two weeks, over 2 million videos were created and shared. With millions of views and leveraged marketing, “Destiny: The Taken King” shattered PlayStation’s previous sales records.
